Pleated skirts: a classy and chic companion all year long

It’s the most wonderful time of the year and with it comes that all important decision what to wear during the holidays and Christmas Day. There is one fashion piece that will definitely make an appearance one day or another: a pleated skirt.

I was a huge fan of pleated skirts this summer and neither want to miss them in my winter wardrobe. The reasons are obvious: Pleated skirts, especially in a midi or maxi size, are super flattering and can be combined in various ways. But most of all, whenever I’m wearing a pleated skirt, I want to swing and dance around, what makes it even more fun to wear. During last summer, I loved wearing my midi-size and pleated dress from Sézane. When I randomly got my hands on this particular dress some days ago, I really wanted to find a way to make it suitable for colder temperatures and the holidays season.

How to style pleated skirts in winter and for the Christmas holidays

This way, I combined the dress with a cosy yet chic jumper, that glams up the outfit with its pearl details. Pearls on chunky knitwear is something we are seeing all over our Instagram feeds for quite some time now. While I love this trend, I couldn’t find a piece that looked good on me. Fortunately, I finally found this one from H&M, that works in a more chic as well as casual way. There’s nothing fun about being cold (especially at Christmas), so this jumper will definitely keep you super comfy and warm during the holidays. I decided to style the outfit with a modern interpretation of the pearl earrings and some ankle boots from Anna Field (currently on sale!) as temperatures were pretty low. To give it a more festive look for Christmas, I recommend to style the outfit with some nude and classy heels.

When wearing dresses, you don’t have to worry about mixing and matching different pieces, because the dress is your instant outfit. This is why whenever possible, I love to simply throw on a dress and look put together in seconds. With some additional accessories, you can give your outfit a whole different look by styling it either more chic and elegant or more relaxed – depending on the occasion and your mood.

But there is also a pretty good practical reason which makes dresses the perfect fashion piece in summer: It’s simply pure comfort. It allows for movement and often comes without a waistband so you can eat as much as you want (and that’s a pretty good reason, right?).

A dress that has all of the benefits named above, is this striped dress with pocket details that I recently found on Mango. Despite the fact that I love pastel pink, the dress creates the most wonderful and feminine silhouette with its flared skirt and little bit tighter bodice. It’s the first striped dress in my wardrobe, but I think that the direction of the stripes is pretty flattering and pretty elongating. Although I never liked the midi size length in the past (crazy, I know!), it’s something I developed a taste for this year. And last but not least, I adore the details of this dress, like the pockets as well as the natural, almost white wooden style buttons that go all the way down.

I styled up the Mango dress with some special and abstract earrings by Asos (unfortunately already sold out!) and my currently favorite basket bag. But I can also imagine to combine it with a large straw hat and statement sunglasses to give it a more fancy look.
