Emma Watson’s Dream Of A Knitted Dress

This weekend on January 1st, the “Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts” special was released on HBO Max and Sky, leaving me in awe of Emma Watson’s knit dress she wore for the reunion.

It’s a dress from New York Fashion Designer Lela Rose, with long sleeves and a knee-length hem featuring black floral detailing, which makes it a delicate piece for the colder months. Combined with a timeless pair of sleek black pumps with a pointed silhouette as well as statement jewelry pieces, Emma looked absolutely stunning and proved once more, that she’s definitely a fashion icon! I also loved the black waist band she wore, giving it an even more ‘extra’.

Unsurprisingly, the dress is already sold out (as have several fashion items after the trailer for the “Return to Hogwarts” trailer has been released), but definitely also has its price point – like all dresses from Lela Rose. If you want to recreate Emma Watson’s timeless and chic look from the Harry Potter reunion without breaking the bank, you find similar knitted skater dresses for different price points below.

Fashion Basics: The Skater Dress

The term “skater dress” describes a type of A-line dress with a little bit more flare. Skater dresses resemble the dresses figure skaters wear, whereby they got their name. They are characterized by a tight-fitting top and waist hugging skirt, that swings with every movement. Latter is mostly cut right above the knee, allowing the wearer to move freely while also gaining an extra bit of elegance. It’s a dress cut that’s always flattering and won’t ever go out of style!

With much love,

Teresa

Always On Point: Polka Dot Dresses For Spring And Summer https://teresawelsch.com/always-on-point-polka-dot-dresses-for-spring-and-summer/ https://teresawelsch.com/always-on-point-polka-dot-dresses-for-spring-and-summer/#respond Sun, 24 May 2020 08:38:03 +0000 https://floralsforspring.net/?p=1979

Some months ago, I was pretty surprised when polka dots were proclaimed to be THE fashion trend during this year’s spring and summer season. Like with florals for spring, the cheerful spotted pattern may not be necessarily groundbreaking. But it is definitely a feminine, timeless classic in everybody’s wardrobe – whether as a dress, blouse or skirt.

The revival of the classic polka dot dress

For summer and spring 2020, we saw polka dots on the runways of Balenciaga, Gucci, Michael Kors and Carolina Herrera, to just name a few. It was clear that the polka dot print would experience a revival and come back as a major trend this year. But did you know that the spottet pattern, as we know it, already became popular in the early 1920s, reaching the upper echelons of fashion in 1954, when Dior featured an elegant, black and white polka dot dress in its couture collection?

Even though polka dots have never fallen out of fashion in all these decades, they reached a new hype in the 90s: Julia Robert’s style in the romantic comedy Pretty Woman remains unforgotten, when her character Vivian Ward attends a polo match, wearing her iconic brown silk polka dot dress. In my opinion, it totally deserved the hype because it’s simply timeless and a feminine piece that never gets out of style.

Polka dots really stand the test of time and do elevate any outfit, which is why they remain a constant in our wardrobes. Although I already own one or another polka dot dress, I couldn’t resist to get my hands on another one this spring.

Although at first glance the chosen dress from Forever New reminded me of Kate’s polka dot dress she wore immediately after Prince George’s birth, I totally fell in love with it when I ordered it and tried it on at home. The lightweight fabric is perfect for warm spring and summer days and the wrap front as well as the pleated skirt give it a modern touch without losing its timeless style. Little details like the short, sheer flutter sleeves and the tie around the waist make it one of my favourite fashion items at the moment. But most importantly: I love how it immediately elevates my mood after putting it on – a clear sign to keep it and wear it not only this season but also the years to come.

“You can’t have a bad day in polka dots.”

– Anna Kendrick

Unfortunately, the dress is already almost sold out (a phenomenon I increasingly observe with many new fashion items in almost all online shops during the current pandemic). Thus, below you find a selection of my favourite polka dot styles for the current spring and upcoming summer season – and an almost identical dress by Hallhuber (which is still available in all sizes!).

Although the polka dot print is a huge trend for this year’s summer season, I’m sure it will remain a constant in our wardrobes for the years to come. It doesn’t always have to be the black and white dress with a classic silhouette. Instead, try to wear the dotted style in fresh and fun colours or in a different shape – midi and maxi styles included!

How do you like to combine polka dots? Let me know here or under my latest Instagram post.
